Parenting Thought #5: Or maybe just a realization

So I realized something amazing this morning!  After two years of asking H to make her bed, she now makes it herself!  Without me asking!  Why is this so exciting you ask? Because a long time ago I decided I wanted H to take pride in her things, her room, and in keeping her stuff neat.  I am not super picky, just a made bed and the floor clean is all I ask with an occasional deeper clean (to get rid of all the random little things she has acquired over the last few months). Every day I would ask her to make her bed and it was always a struggle.   Every day I would ask her to unload the dishwasher and she complained.  But I kept with it hoping (not knowing because remember she is my oldest and I have never seen results before!) that someday she would do it without being asked and today I realized that she does!!  It's not every day, and that is totally ok!  So my thought is this: when we decide what is important to us and we keep with it they eventually will do it!  I know it's not profound, but it's enough to keep me going!
